Career Application

My career aspiration is to be a secondary school science teacher. Although it is very unlikely that this knowledge will ever need to be applied in that field, I believe the practical applications hold a lot of importance. In year 12 chemistry students are taught about galvanic and electrochemical cells. A technique that is often used to gain the interest of students is to use real-world examples. Being able to explain to students (in simple terms) how the knowledge they are gaining has the potential to be applied in a variety of ways such as in blood glucose indicators or for environmental studies, will be of much interest to the students.

This unit has also provided me with much more confidence in conducting my own experiments. Being able to prepare my own solutions and use other peoples protocols to guide my own experiments will provide me with a lot more freedom and knowledge in bringing new and engaging chemistry experiments into the classroom. Rather than the basic titrations and flame tests.
